The "Sortes Astrampsychi," a Greek oracle book from the first or second century C.E., seems to have enjoyed great popularity during late antiquity and the Middle Ages, having been handed down in twelve Egyptian papyri and fourteen medieval manuscripts. The so-called first review, or copy, of the Greek text--"Ecdosis prior"--was published in 1983 by G. M. Browne. The so-called second review ("Ecdosis altera"), which describes the use of the oracle more closely, is now published in Vol. II.
