First, on the list of books you may need for your spiritual journey is “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle. This spiritual book has been a New York Times Bestseller and was published in 1999. The purpose of this book is to teach readers how to live more fully present with life as it happens, which makes one less prone to stress and anxiety.

When you live your life without being focused on what’s happening now, there will be no growth or development for yourself, only pain because you let go of all opportunities that may come up along the way.

This book was written by Helen Schucman and William Thetford, who were both professors at Columbia University.

FAQs

What are the spiritual books you recommend?

I would start with Eckhart Tolle’s The Power of Now. If you are not familiar, this book is written by a man who has suffered greatly in his life and found peace through meditation and mindfulness practices. His story will inspire anyone to take control over their lives for the betterment of themselves.

What else do I need to know about spiritual books? What makes them different from other types of books?

Spiritual Books tend to be non-fiction that focuses on the more profound meaning or metaphysical topics than storytelling novels like Harry Potter, etc. Spiritual literature tends to deal with self-improvement & personal development while trying to get at what it means “to be human” more so than traditional fiction does.

What makes spiritual books different from other types of self-help books?

Self-help can often be more practical and has a more considerable emphasis on trying to improve your life. Spiritual literature is centered around mind, soul & inner transformation (which you may or may not want). But if it does appeal to someone, the depth in which these topics are explored will usually go deeper than traditional self-help material.

How would I find these types of books online? Are there any specific websites that sell them? If so, what ones do I recommend most and why?

Yeah! Goodreads has an entire section devoted to this topic: [Goodreads – Books about Spirituality](link). Or Amazon also carries many titles that I would recommend.

What are some of the best books for beginners?

I have two recommendations: The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle and Autobiography Of A Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda. They both deal with mindfulness practices, but they take a different approach, so you will get something out of each one if you read them!

Are there any spiritual books written in fiction form? If yes, what are your top three recommendations on these types of reads?

One Amazing Thing by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is an excellent book that deals with self-discovery through Hindu mythology. Another great option is Eat Pray Love which was turned into a movie starring Julia Roberts. It’s a great story about finding yourself, and it is written in an entertaining way that will keep you reading till the end!
Lastly, check out Arundhati Roy, which won The Booker Prize for Fiction with her fantastic novel The God Of Small Things.

What are some books about spirituality that have been turned into movies? Are there any other titles that readers should watch after they finish these types of reads?

There are many options here, but my favorites are Eat Pray Love & Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. Both have been made into films if you want to watch them while inspired by their stories or just looking for something interesting to do!

Why should people read spiritual literature instead of watching/playing it out in real life?

I think the biggest reason would be to find some peace & balance amidst all of the chaos. Spiritual books are meant for relaxation and reflection, which is why many people love them so much!

How do spiritual books affect your everyday life when you read one? Do they change anything about how you live or approach problems?

Spiritual literature profoundly affects my mood because I often feel good after reading, peaceful, inspired, etc. It’s hard not to get something positive from reflecting on your thoughts while reading these kinds of novels too.

There is something for everyone on this list, so if you’re starting with spiritual traditions or an experienced reader, there will be something here to suit your needs. Some books may not entirely fit within our criteria because they do offer some practical advice on improving physical health and wellness despite their focus being more spiritually focused than others.
